Plusnet broadband features
Plusnet offer the standard ADSL and fibre connection options along with a free wireless router (although some packages require a connection fee so check the small print).
There are normally Plusnet deals to be had, typically in the form of prepaid gift cards around the £50 range so bear this in mind when shopping for deals. Types of Plusnet broadband explained
The type of broadband you select at Plusnet will be determined as to whether you want a short contract or don’t mind being tied into a standard 12 or 18 month contract, how fast you want your downloads to be and whether you want to bundle the broadband with calls and TV deals.
Plusnet Unlimited Broadband
The Plusnet Unlimited Broadband option can be purchased with a landline from Plusnet or you can keep your existing landline.
Broadband speeds average 10Mb (with unlimited usage) so if you are planning on streaming content or have high demands for line speed you may want to look at the fibre optic broadband options from Plusnet.
Contracts can be taken over 12 months, 18 months or on a no annual contract basis for maximum flexibility (although this costs a little more per month) and Plusnet will supply you with a wireless router.
Plusnet Fibre Broadband
Plusnet Fibre is the mid-range fibre broadband option at average speeds of 36Mb per second and is up to 8x faster than standard broadband.
Usage is unlimited and contracts can be taken over 18 months or 12 months with the option of adding line rental to the package for a small extra month charge.
The Plusnet Hub One is included with fibre broadband contracts which acts as a dual band wi-fi router.
Plusnet Fibre Extra Broadband
The Plusnet Fibre Extra Broadband option is the fastest fibre broadband on offer from Plusnet with average speeds of 66Mb, unlimited usage, the option to add extras to the bundle and you will receive the Plusnet Hub One wireless router.
Contracts can be taken over 12 or 18 months.
Plusnet broadband speeds
Depending on your broadband usage and budget you may want to opt for the cheaper 10Mbps average download speed ADSL or if you’re a heavy Internet user the 66Mbps average download speed package will be the better option.
Upload speeds range from 1Mbps through to the fastest average upload at 19Mbps. Most typically users won’t need to be concerned about upload speeds unless you’re an online gamer for example or you need to share files online.
Plusnet broadband is unlimited (even the cheapest broadband packages) so you don’t need to worry about excess fees for downloading or streaming huge amounts of data whether you’re on the Unlimited 10Mb package, the Unlimited Fibre 36MB or the 66Mb Unlimited Fibre Extra plan.
Plusnet Hub One router review
When you sign up to a broadband contract with Plusnet you will get a different router depending on whether you choose an ADSL contract or the faster fibre broadband contract.
If choosing ADSL you will receive the Plusnet Hub Zero, whereas on a fibre contract you will get the latest Plusnet Hub One featuring the latest in tech from Plusnet.
Functionality-wise the Hub One is what you would consider an incremental upgrade from the Zero Hub. Importantly the Hub One is now dual band (as opposed to the Hub Zero) and it broadcasts wireless ac which helps devices optimise the best connection levels.
The Hub One will be very familiar to BT customers (BT is after all the parent company of Plusnet) both in styling when compared to previous BT Hub incarnations and also in features which means you’re getting a solid, well performing wireless hub (free of charge).

Positive reasons to buy Plusnet broadband

- There are not many additional extra offered with Plusnet broadband. Their service is more orientated towards a no fuss, cost effective service.
- There is some element of broadband traffic management which means in time of peak load the network can prioritise certain types of traffic over others.
- The shorter the contract taken, the more expensive the monthly cost becomes.
- There is a house move fee if you need to move your broadband in the event of moving house whilst within your broadband contract.
