Shell Energy may be better known as a fuel provider, but since their takeover of First Utility they have entered the broadband market and offer a range of very good value broadband packages (which can include call plans if required).

There are some nice perks offered with Shell Energy broadband and their broadband deals are often among the cheapest around.

Who provides Shell Energy broadband?

Like most providers, Shell Energy uses the BT Openreach network and the average speeds are in line with most other providers. It is Openreach engineers that will optimise installation should an ultrafast package be taken.

Types of Shell Energy broadband

Fast Broadband (18 month contract)

Using a standard ADSL connection Shell Fast Broadband offers a download speed of 11 Mbps and therefore works well for smaller households who casually browse the web and social media and occasionally stream TV shows or films on the likes of Netflix.

Superfast Fibre Broadband (18 month contract)

For a faster download speed of 35Mbps you will need to pay a little more. Being a fibre option you can expect this to be more reliable and handle multiple users both browsing and streaming on a range of devices.

Superfast Fibre Plus Broadband (18 month contract)

This fibre option gives you download speeds of 63 Mbps with truly unlimited usage for downloading and uploading as much as you want whenever you want. Great for larger households with a number of occupants looking for faster speeds and streaming movies, browsing social media and downloading large files at the same time.

Ultrafast Fibre (18 month contract)

Ultrafast fibre uses the latest in broadband technology seeing average speeds climb up to 140Mbps thus supporting streaming, browsing, gaming, downloading across several users with no lagging!

Ultrafast Fibre Plus (18 month contract)

Shell Energy’s fastest download speeds of 290Mbps. Lines are optimised and checked for pre-existing issues that may affect performance to ensure that you get the speeds you pay for. The whole house will benefit from these maximised speeds.

*Ultrafast Fibre is made possible through GFast, the newest and fastest broadband service available. It is in a nutshell an upgrade to the existing telephone line. At the moment GFast is only available in certain locations within the UK. BT are however aiming to make GFast available to over 10 million homes by the end of 2020*

Shell Energy call plans and pricing

There are three extra call packages that can be added to the broadband package (at an additional cost) should the standard ‘pay as you go’ not be sufficient enough.

Evening and weekend calls package – inclusive weekday evening 7pm to 7am calls and weekend calls from midnight Friday to midnight Sunday to UK landlines and mobiles.

Anytime calls package – just as the name suggests, inclusive calls any time of day to UK landlines and mobiles.

International calls package – for those with friends and family overseas calls on this package include 600 minutes to landlines in 40 countries. 75% discount on calls to mobiles in 40 countries and 50% discount on calls to all other international destinations.
