Vodafone have chosen not to offer the slower and outdated ADSL connections which we think is a wise move because the cost difference between ADSL and fibre is negligible for customers each month, however, the difference in broadband speeds is massive.

With Vodafone the price quoted for your broadband will include the cost of the home landline also.

Vodafone offer two types of fibre optic broadband which are largely the same product but with differing speeds.

Broadband speeds

Vodafone make it easy to choose your preferred broadband speed because you only have the choice between receiving the 35Mbps average download speed on the Vodafone Superfast 1 plan or the average 63Mbps download speed on the Vodafone Superfast 2 plan.

Both the Superfast 1 and Superfast 2 are speedy options so your main considerations will be budget and whether there are a number of people in your household that are heavy users of the Internet e.g. streaming music, TV or films online across different devices.

Vodafone offer unlimited monthly usage so you won’t need to worry about exceeding a set download cap.

Vodafone router

Vodafone provides a high tech wireless router for use with their fibre broadband contracts. It offers dual band 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz technology which means you can split your devices between the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies so there is less crowding on your network.

There are gigabit Ethernet ports as standard which are extremely useful of wired connections.

Where the router comes into its own is the smart control features on the router which can be managed directly through your phone via an iOS or Android app. This is a really handy and welcome innovation which makes altering network access for devices (removing access to the Internet at bedtime for youngsters’ tablets for example) very easy as well as a range of other useful functions which can be controlled via the app.

Potential negatives with using Vodafone broadband

• Vodafone broadband contracts have to be taken over a minimum 18 month period – there are currently no shorter contracts.
• There are no Vodafone TV bundles available.
• Only fibre broadband is available at Vodafone so if you are not within range for a fibre connection there isn’t the option of taking and ADSL connection instead.
